The following is a list of scholarships for UNDSMHS.
Eligibility: You must be an enrolled student at UNDSMHS and meet merit, and/or financial need or other criteria.
Adams, Imogen and Naomi Memorial Medical Scholarship – Established by a gift from the Naomi Adams Estate.
Altringer, Patrick L. Scholarship--An Endowment fund scholarship established by Patrick Altringer, a graduate of the University of North Dakota.
AMA Foundation Scholars Fund-- Working with the AMA Alliance, the AMA Foundation raises money each year for medical schools to distribute to deserving students.
Andrews, Mark and Mary Medical Scholarship – Fund established by Mark and Mary Andrews, Mapleton, ND, in appreciation of the quality education their daughters Karen and Sarah received at UND.
Asmundson, Dr. A. Leonard Medical Scholarship – Established by Dr. A. Leonard Asmundson within the University of North Dakota Foundation.
Ayash, John J. Memorial Scholarship – This scholarship was endowed in 1978 in the ND Community Foundation by friends of the late Dr. John J. Ayash.
Berquist, Dr. Tom & Mary Medical Scholarship--Established by a gift from Dr. Thomas H. Berquist, Director of the Radiology residency and Musculoskeletal fellowship programs at Mayo Clinic, Jacksonville, and Professor of Radiology in the Mayo Clinic, College of Medicine. Dr. Berquist lives in Ponte Vedre Beach, FL, with his wife Mary.
Bollinger, Charles and Emma Scholarship Endowment – Endowment established by the late Vera Bollinger, Valley City, ND, in honor of her beloved parents, Charles and Emma Bollinger.
Churchill, William and Lucy Medical Scholarship – An endowment established by Helen Churchill Wahlstrad in honor of her parent’s contributions who dedicated their lives to building this nation.
Dakota Medical Foundation Memorial Scholarship (Dr. Mack V. Traynor/Dr. Robert G. Rogers) – Established through a direct gift from the Dakota Medical Foundation to the Foundation in honor and memory of Dr. Mack Traynor.
Devils Lake District Medical Society Scholarship – Annual scholarship established by members of the Devils Lake District Medical Society.
Dryden Wiltrout, Elizabeth Scholarship – Established by a gift from the estate of Mary Wiltrout Dryden by Sara Dryden in honor and memory of her mother.
Duggan, Ray Scholarship Endowment – Endowment in excess of $1 million dollars established by a former UND student, the late Ray Duggan of Great Falls, Montana.
Engesather, Dr. J.D. Medical Scholarship – Endowment established by Cameron McNiven of Portland Oregon; Geraldine Niss of Littleton, Colorado and Helen McNiven of Omaha, Nebraska.
Evans-Titus Scholarships – Established in 1963 for students enrolled in School of Medicine who need financial assistance.
French, Dr. Harley E., Medical Scholarship – Established by the late Dr. Thomas Mar of Holualoa, Hawaii, a UND Alumni (1938) in memory of UND Medical School Dean Harley Ellsworth French, Educator, Physician and Dean.
Glaspel, George W. and Eva Scholarship – Established by the late Dr. C.J. Glaspel and his wife, Viola B. within the UND Foundation to provide a living memorial in his honor.
Golseth, Gustave & Morrish, Wesley Scholarship – Established by Dr. James G. Golseth within the UND Foundation in memory and honor of his father, Gustave Golseth, and father-in-law, Wesley Morrish.
Harwood, Dean Theodore, Memorial Scholarship – Established in 1979 in honor of Dean Theodore Harwood, Dean of the Medical School, 1953-73.
Haugen, C.O. & Fern --Established within the University of North Dakota Foundation by Clifford and Fern Haugen, true ND pioneers. Cliff Haugen graduated from Rush Medical College in 1930. Clifford made house calls as a rural country doctor well into the late 1970’s. Clifford died in November 1991. Clifford married Fern in 1935 and was a key role in Cliffords success--maid, cook, laundry woman, and nurse for Clifford’s private hospital in their home.
Hordinsky, Dr. Bohdan Memorial Scholarship – Established in 1997 in honor of Bohdan Z. Hordinsky by the family of Bohdan Z. Hordinsky. (Dr. Jerry ’65 and Martha Hordinsky).
Howell, Vernon & Orlee Scholarship--Scholarship is funded from the Fargo Moorhead Area Foundation. Enrolled in School of Medicine, must be resident of the State of ND, possess good morals, passing grades, ability, desire and persistence to obtain their objectives.
Kaess, Dr. Karl & Carolyn Scholarship--Established within the University of North Dakota Foundation by Dr. Karl V. and M. Carolyn Kaess, loyal alumni of UND.
Kongslie, Alex & Agnes Memorial Medical Scholarship--Established within the University of North Dakota Foundation from the estate of Agnes Kongslie.
Kyle, Dr. Robert A. & Charlene M. Medical Scholarship – Endowment established by Dr. Robert A. & Charlene M. Kyle of Rochester, MN.
Logan-Hetherington Award – Established by the late Mary Hetherington, Bismarck, ND, in honor of her uncle, Dr. John E. Hetherington, and her long time friend, Charlotte Logan of Bismarck, ND.
Lynner, Karen and Elvira Medical Scholarship – Established by a gift from the late Karen Lynner.
Magner, Charles & Florence Medical Scholarship – Established with an estate gift in 2005 Dr. Charles Magner was from Malta, MT and graduated with a BS Med in 1936. He received his MD at Rush Medical School. His spouse was Florence Magner. Charles died in 1996 and Florence in 2002.
Marshall, Floyd and Ann, Medical Scholarship – Established within the University of North Dakota Foundation from the estate of Ann Marshall.
Meier, Lynn, Memorial Medical Scholarship – Fund established by Clara Meier, Bismarck, North Dakota, and the late Ben Meier in memory of their son, Lynn.
Meredith, Dr. Donald and Marjorie Medical Scholarship – Endowment established by Dr. Donald & Marjorie Meredith, graduates of University of North Dakota.
Pelletier, Dr. Rene & Barbara A. Medical Scholarship – Endowment established by Dr. Rene W. Pelletier and Barbara, graduates of UND.
Quistgard, Dr. Paul C. Scholarship – Established in 1960 by a gift from the late Dr. Quistgard, 1927 graduate of the School of Medicine & Health Sciences.
Ratcliffe, Eleanor Scholarship – Established in 1997. One-half of the scholarship is to be used for a senior student in the science of medical technology and the other half is to be used for a senior student in the School of Medicine & Health Sciences.
Reichert, Dr. Donald J. Endowment Scholarship – This scholarship was established by the family of the late Dr. Donald J. Reichert of Dickinson, North Dakota.
Roen, William G. Medical Scholarship – Established within the University of North Dakota Foundation by Dr. Ernest Godfread in memory and honor of his friend and colleague.
Rohde, Ralph and Hazel, Scholarship – Established by Hazel Rohde, Cambria, California in 1988 in honor and memory of her late husband.
Rohrich, Rod J. Scholarship--Established within the University of North Dakota Foundation by Dr. Rod J. Rohrich in 2007, a graduate of UND’s medical school in 1977. Dr. Rohrich is an internationally known plastic surgeon and innovative educator.
Saiki, Dr. A.K. Memorial Endowment – Funding endowed by medical alumni and former students of the late Dr. Saiki, who served as a member of the Pathology Department from 1928 until 1971.
Cora Smith King Memorial Scholarship – Established within the UND Foundation with contributions from various donors in honor and memory of the late Cora Smith King.
Soo, Betty MD Memorial Medical School Scholarship--Established within the University of North Dakota Foundation from the estate of Betty Shue Mui Soo, MD. The only woman in her class, she received her bachelors degree in medicine from UND and went on to complete her medical degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine in 1959. She had a successful pediatric practice in Hawaii for over 40 years. Dr. Soo passed away March 7, 2006.
Tuttle Scholarship – Established by the Jess W. Tuttle family in memory of their son, Robert, a member of the medical school Class of 1954.
Wold, Keith and Elaine, Medical Scholarship – Established by Dr. and Mrs. Keith Wold, UND School of Medicine Class of 1949, Boca Raton, Florida.
Zahradka, Buckly MD Memorial Scholarship Endowment – Established within the UND Foundation with contribution from various donors in honor and memory of the late Dr. Buckly Zahradka.
